Abstract

Knowledge management is a new managerial approach that is based on the recognition and use of the most important value of organizations: human resources, their knowledge and their willingness to place them at their service. Intelligent Organizations are those in which people expand their ability to create the results they really want, in which new ways and patterns of thinking are experienced, in which people continually learn to learn together. The Medicines Information and Surveillance Unit (UIVM) has the following objectives: collect, organize and disseminate structured and systematic information; analyze and evaluate information on quality, safety, efficacy, and other drug-related issues for decision-making. The UIVM works as an intelligent organization, taking into account that it carries out an adequate knowledge management since it contributes to organize, analyze, create and disseminate the knowledge it generates; understands and applies the five basic disciplines: personal mastery, teamwork, shared vision, mental models and systemic thinking, fostering learning and creativity of its members; promotes organizational change in terms of its products and services, strategies and technologies. With all its actions, the UIVM puts its knowledge at the service of public health, guaranteeing the surveillance of medicines and thus promoting their safe and rational use.
